Have you ever been called to action by marketing? A call to action is exactly what it sounds like — getting the prospective consumer who is viewing or listening to the marketing ad to act. For example, “visit our website with code “today” to get 10% off this weekend only” tells the customer to go make a purchase within a finite period of time. It’s simple and to the point, and it generally works.
But what gets you to act? Pay attention to your own cues because if you operate or lead marketing for your business, there’s a good chance that your target or ideal customers are not unlike yourself. Allow yourself to be creative and take note when something piques your interest. We always suggest using the notes app on your phone to make notes of those creative ideas you like and then workshop what could work for your business.
Keep in mind that it’s not just about a sale; the call to action needs to meet the need you have. It could be getting people to physically come into a shop, scheduling an appointment with you, trying out a new service, attending an event (physically or virtually), or signing up for a newsletter or other long-tail marketing effort.
Getting the right call to action can feel a little bit like the old expression ‘throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks.
